A Journey of Patience and Fulfillment

By John F. Russell

Nestled amidst the serene landscapes of Steamboat Springs, Harmony Yoga + Wellness stands as a sanctuary where individuals can embark on a journey of self-rediscovery and well-being. Founder Nikki Sjoden, a seasoned practitioner with a deep-rooted passion for yoga, sought to create a space where the hustle and bustle of everyday life fades into tranquility.

“In an era of relentless activity, I envisioned a haven where people could pause, take a deep breath, and reconnect with their bodies through the transformative power of yoga,” Sjoden remarks.

A Diverse Sanctuary for Yogis

Harmony’s esteemed team of eight instructors guides students through an eclectic array of 11 classes, catering to a wide range of preferences and fitness levels. From invigorating Mindful Evening Flow to restorative Gentle Yoga Stretch, each session is meticulously designed to balance the demands of an active lifestyle.

“We are continually expanding our roster of instructors,” Sjoden enthuses. “With the addition of two new teachers joining us in October, I am thrilled to offer nearly 10 instructors within a mere six months of our inception.”

Sjoden’s Yoga Odyssey

Sjoden’s path to yoga began with her formative years as a gymnast, leaving her with a profound respect for the human body’s capabilities and resilience. However, it was in her early 20s that she discovered the profound transformative potential of yoga.

“Core power yoga resonated deeply with me, providing a nurturing balance to the intense physicality of gymnastics,” Sjoden reflects.

Her yoga journey culminated in a transformative three-week immersive training program in New Zealand, where she embarked on a journey of self-exploration and deepened her understanding of the practice.

A Community Rooted in Mindfulness

Prior to establishing Harmony Yoga + Wellness, Sjoden nurtured her passion for teaching at Old Town Hot Springs. However, her aspirations extended beyond the traditional workout-centric approach prevalent there.

“I yearned to create a space where students could slow down, delve into the spiritual aspects of yoga, and cultivate mindfulness in their thoughts and actions,” Sjoden explains.

A Place of Connection and Inspiration

Harmony Yoga + Wellness not only offers a sanctuary for physical well-being but also fosters a vibrant community. Sjoden envisions it as a place where students can linger after class to connect with like-minded individuals, sip a cup of tea at the hot tea bar, and delve into thought-provoking Oracle Cards.

The studio’s welcoming ambiance, featuring a captivating mural and lush greenery, reflects Sjoden’s personal journey with yoga and her desire to inspire others to embrace the transformative power of the practice.

“Patience has been my guiding principle throughout this endeavor,” Sjoden concludes. “Trusting the natural unfolding of events, rather than forcing a premature outcome, has allowed Harmony Yoga + Wellness to flourish into what it is today.”
