The Healing Power of Laughter

Laughter, an act often associated with joy and lightheartedness, holds profound therapeutic benefits acknowledged by the global celebration of World Laughter Day.

Gerry Kerfoot, a seasoned practitioner and instructor of laughter yoga, passionately advocates for its transformative effects. Through her hour-long sessions at the Garden Studio, she guides participants on a journey of laughter and relaxation.

The Practice of Laughter Yoga

Laughter yoga, as described by Gerry, is a practice that combines purposeful laughter with deep breathing techniques. This combination promotes internal vitality, cardiovascular health, and mental well-being.

The aim of laughter yoga is to induce sustained, deep laughter, even in the absence of external stimuli. “It’s almost like you fake laugh until you make it,” says Gerry, emphasizing the transformative power of sustained laughter.

The Benefits of Laughter Yoga

Research and anecdotal evidence suggest that laughter yoga offers a range of benefits, including:

  • Reduced stress
  • Improved mood
  • Enhanced immune function
  • Relief from anxiety
  • Increased endorphin release

From Laughter Yoga to Spiritual Synergy

Gerry’s passion for laughter yoga extends beyond the confines of the Garden Studio. She shares her expertise through workshops and conducts laughter yoga sessions for diverse groups, including workplaces, children with special needs, and event attendees.

Her home at 8 Eaves Lane is not just a living space but also an extension of her commitment to relaxation and well-being. The downstairs half of the house has been transformed into “Following the Joy,” a spiritual giftware shop that offers an array of candles, incense, and handcrafted crystals.

Gerry’s creative endeavors extend to music and literature. She composes and performs trance and mother earth music and hosts bookshop workshops at her store, creating a holistic sanctuary for the mind, body, and spirit.
