Significance of Surya Namaskar
Surya Namaskar is an integral spiritual practice that combines asanas (postures), pranayama (breath control), and meditation techniques. Each step in the sequence is accompanied by a specific mantra, infusing the body with vital energy (prana). Regular practice fosters a harmonious balance within the mind and body, stimulating muscles and organs while cultivating concentration and tranquility.
Event Series and Participation
This mass Surya Namaskar demonstration was part of a series of events organized by the Ministry of Ayush from January 1st to 14th, 2023. The events were coordinated to coincide with Makar Sakranti, commemorating the Sun’s transition from the Southern to the Northern Hemisphere.
MDNIY hosted the second event in the series, following a successful event in Gujarat that garnered a Guinness World Record for the most Surya Namaskars performed simultaneously.
Performance and Dissemination
Over 500 yoga practitioners participated in the Surya Namaskar demonstration at MDNIY. The event was covered by Doordarshan and streamed on various social media platforms of the Ministry of Ayush and MDNIY.
