Celebrating Age and Contributions

The NSW Seniors Festival commemorates the invaluable contributions of older adults to their communities. During this 10-day celebration, a diverse range of events cater to the diverse interests of seniors aged 60 and over.

Physical Activity and Wellness

Aquatic centers across the region offer complimentary access to swimming and exercise classes. For non-swimmers, Juanita Nielsen Community Centre grants free gym and fitness classes for first-time visitors. Gentle exercise sessions are available at Pyrmont Community Centre, while Ultimo Community Centre hosts table tennis tournaments. Aqua aerobics enthusiasts can participate in free sessions at Ian Thorpe Aquatic Centre.

Exploring New Sports

Pickleball, a hybrid of badminton, tennis, and table tennis, is offered at KGV Recreation Centre. This accessible sport is suitable for various skill levels.

Yoga and Dance for All

Reginald Murphy Community Centre offers free yoga classes for individuals of all abilities. For those with limited mobility, chair yoga at Cliff Noble Community Centre provides gentle exercises while seated. Numerous dance classes cater to diverse preferences, including Zumba Gold, Sh’bam, and flamenco.

Artistic Pursuits

Acting instructor Sean O’Shea conducts classes at the Reginald Murphy Community Centre, empowering seniors to develop their performance skills. Ultimo Community Centre offers classical painting lessons, while professional painter Michael Braden hosts fortnightly painting sessions at Reginald Murphy Community Centre. Additionally, creative writing, sewing, and art and craft classes are available.

Digital Literacy and Support

City of Sydney Library’s Be Connected program provides free digital training and support at Reginald Murphy and Redfern community centers. Seniors can learn essential skills such as email navigation, internet searching, MyGov account setup, and social media connectivity. IT troubleshooting sessions are also offered at Ultimo and Cliff Noble community centers.

LGBTIQ Women’s Events

Silver Sessions at Erskineville Town Hall cater specifically to LGBTIQ women, offering opportunities to socialize and engage in activities such as dance, yoga, and printmaking. Workshops on women’s health and healthy aging are also available.
