Once frequented by legends such as The Beatles, Mike Love, Donovan, and the Farrow Sisters, the Rishikesh-based ashram has announced plans for a significant renovation.

An Iconic Past

Nestled amidst the Rajaji National Park in Uttarakhand, the Beatles Ashram gained its name due to the band’s visit in 1968.

The ashram, originally called the International Centre of Meditation, was founded in 1963 with a generous donation from American philanthropist Doris Duke. Under the guidance of renowned yoga master Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, it provided unparalleled facilities for meditation and spiritual growth.

During The Beatles’ stay, they composed 48 songs, 20 of which were later recorded and featured on renowned albums like Abbey Road and The White Album.

A Transformative Restoration

After years of abandonment, the ashram was reopened in 2015 by the Forest Department of Uttarakhand as a tourist destination.

In 2023, the Uttarakhand Tourism Department and Department of Forests embarked on a joint venture to transform the ashram into a modern heritage space, preserving its rich history while incorporating elements of wellness, arts, and hospitality.

The Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board (UTDB) has partnered with HCP Design, Planning, and Management Pvt. Ltd (HCB) to develop a comprehensive vision board and blueprint for the ashram’s architectural and engineering overhaul.

A Revitalized Experience

The restored ashram will offer an immersive glimpse into its past while providing a serene environment for holistic wellness.

Transcendental Meditation and the teachings of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi will remain central pillars of the ashram, attracting not only yoga enthusiasts but also researchers, musicians, and wellness seekers from around the globe.

The vibrant atmosphere will be further enhanced through cultural performances, art exhibitions, and inspiring events, fostering a sense of community and cross-cultural exchange.
