Viral Image Falsely Claims to Depict Indian Culture in New Zealand

An image of individuals seated on a floor, preparing to consume a meal on banana leaves, is being circulated online with the assertion that it portrays the significance of Indian culture in New Zealand.

Upon conducting a reverse image search using Yandex, BOOM discovered a comparable image on the blog “Happy Yoga Travels,” which was included in an article titled “MY YOGA VACATION AT SIVANANDA ASHRAM IN KERALA, INDIA.” Subsequent to this, we conducted a Google search for “Sivananda Ashram Kerala” and located its official website.

The Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Dhanwantari Ashram, operated by The International Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centres, is a yoga ashram situated in close proximity to Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. BOOM retrieved an image from the “Yoga Vacation” section of the website depicting individuals seated on a blue floor and consuming food from banana leaves.

Upon comparing the viral image (left) with the image from Sivananda Ashram Kerala (right), it becomes evident that structural similarities exist, such as yellow pillars and wall-mounted speakers (circled in red).

The claim that the viral image represents the celebration of Indian culture in New Zealand is false. The image actually depicts an ashram in Kerala, India.
