Interview with a Himalayan Master

Early Life and Yoga Lineage

Yogrishi Vishvketu’s immersion in yoga began in early childhood. By the tender age of three, he was practicing and had inherited knowledge from past lives. Three of his uncles were Yogis, further fostering his interest in the discipline.

Receiving his formal education in the foothills of the Himalayas, Yogrishi Vishvketu earned a Master’s degree in Yoga Philosophy, followed by a Doctorate from Gurukul Kangri University, a renowned spiritual center in Haridwar, India.

The Essence of Yoga

For Yogrishi Vishvketu, the essence of yoga lies in the pursuit of freedom, fostering a state of fearlessness, blissfulness, and joy.

Akhanda Yoga: A Holistic Approach

Akhanda Yoga, a unique approach developed by Yogrishi Vishvketu, emphasizes the integration of various aspects of yoga. Unlike the isolated focus on asana or meditation common in the West, Akhanda Yoga incorporates asana, pranayama, meditation, chanting, cleansing kriyas, yogic philosophy, and Ayurveda into a comprehensive practice.

This holistic approach extends to the nourishment of the body through mindful eating, acknowledging food’s energetic impact.

Yoga in the East and West

Yogrishi Vishvketu observes a distinction between yoga in the East and West. While Western practice tends to prioritize the physical aspects, in India, yoga remains a path toward internal liberation, a spiritual journey.

Yogasana: The Encyclopedia of Yoga Poses

Yogrishi Vishvketu’s expertise and knowledge of Sanskrit motivated him to create “Yogasana: The Encyclopedia of Yoga Poses.” Recognizing the widespread misuse of yoga poses and variations, he compiled a comprehensive resource for practitioners and teachers.

Featuring over 850 poses from beginner to advanced levels, Yogasana provides the correct names, variations, and energetic effects of each asana. The book emphasizes the importance of honoring the authentic names and pronunciation of the poses.
