Extensive Energy Infrastructure to Power Colorado’s Clean Future

Sedalia, Colorado – The largest electric distribution cooperative in Colorado, CORE Electric Cooperative (CORE), has partnered with Invenergy, a leading developer of sustainable energy solutions. This partnership will transform CORE into a fully independent electric utility, with control over its power supply future.

Clean Energy Portfolio

The agreement involves a 20-year contract that will provide CORE with over 1.2 terawatt-hours of renewable energy annually. This portfolio includes approximately 400 megawatts (MW) of new solar and wind energy projects, 100 MW of battery storage, and 300 MW of existing natural gas resources.

These additions will complement CORE’s existing generating assets, supplying the bulk of the cooperative’s wholesale energy needs. In line with Colorado’s clean energy goals, the partnership supports CORE’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions by 80% by 2030.

Affordable and Reliable Energy

Despite the significant clean energy investment, the agreement will not compromise affordability for CORE’s members. The portfolio is designed to stabilize costs and keep rates among the lowest in Colorado for years to come. Additionally, dispatchable resources ensure service reliability.

“This partnership demonstrates that the transition to a clean and reliable energy future doesn’t require sacrificing affordability,” said Lisa Germaine, CEO of CORE Electric Cooperative. “Invenergy’s expertise positions CORE to support Colorado’s economic growth while pursuing clean energy objectives.”

Collaboration for a Clean Energy Future

Invenergy brings extensive experience as one of the largest developers of clean and renewable energy projects globally. Their successful development of seven projects currently operating in Colorado showcases their commitment to the state’s energy transition.

“Invenergy is proud to partner with CORE and support their vision for affordable, reliable, and clean energy,” said John Hamilton, Senior Vice President and Development Business Leader at Invenergy. “Our flexible energy solutions will help CORE achieve their renewable energy and reliability goals.”
