Research Findings on Yoga Therapy

Research studies and evidence presented at the symposium demonstrated the efficacy of yoga therapy as a preventive, promotive, rehabilitative, and curative therapy. Findings from Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth’s yoga schools, led by Meena Ramanathan, were reviewed. Researchers highlighted the effectiveness of yoga as an adjuvant therapy in Metabolic Syndrome, Psoriasis, and sleep deprivation in pregnant women.

Salutogenesis and Holistic Healing

The symposium emphasized the importance of salutogenesis, the Japanese concept of ikigai (purpose in life), in holistic healing. K R Sethuraman, Professor Emeritus at AIMST University, highlighted the significance of salutogenesis and its role in promoting a healthy and fulfilling life.

Mind-Body Medicine

An open forum on “Yogachikitsa as Mind-Body Medicine” explored the multifaceted dimensions of the mind-body connection. Meena Ramanathan and Sobana R discussed the role of yoga therapy in addressing mental and emotional well-being.

Importance of Traditional Teachings

Jayaraman Mahadevan from S-VYASA Yoga University stressed the importance of understanding traditional yogic techniques through the study of classical texts and commentaries. He emphasized the concept of Adi-Vyadhi, the afflictions of mind and body, as described in the ‘Yoga Vashishta’.

Experiential Session

An experiential session led by Ananda Balayogi Bhavanani, ISCM Director, provided participants with insights into the traditional 12-point diagnostic tools developed by Swami Gitananda and their relevance in modern healthcare.

Collaboration and Innovation

The Indo-US Yoga Chikitsa Symposium and Workshop fostered collaboration between yoga experts from India and the US. Participants explored innovative approaches to integrating yoga into healthcare practices and discussed the ongoing research investigating yoga therapy as an adjuvant to standard medical care.
